[I:http://used-dozers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/RandyBurnside8.jpg]The luxury of being able to afford a new car is not something all people have, and so many are turning to second hand auctions, private car sales or public car traders. Whether you are familiar with buying used cars or not, knowing what to look for can prove to be a difficult task. This is why it is so important to be alert. Car traders, especially in an auction style situation, enjoy making as many sales as possible and as big a profit as they can from their cars. While this is not always true, taking the time to do some research will prevent a lot of unnecessary hassle, and maybe a lot of money.
The first tip is to always arrange to view a car during the day, when it is bright. This will enable you to see clearly if there is any damage to it. Look out for dents and scratches, and don’t be afraid to ask to look under the bonnet at the engine. If you are unsure about the mechanics of cars, take a knowledgeable friend along with you to help. A person selling a car should never expect you to meet them in a layby or a station at night. Public traders should be registered, and if it is a private sale, arrange to meet the person at their home address. Taking someone with you also gives you extra security as well as a second pair of eyes.
The average mileage covered by most cars is ten thousand annually. One trick that traders use to make extra profit on a vehicle is to alter the odometer, the display in the dashboard which indicates the mileage of the vehicle. Newer cars have digital displays, but older ones can be altered relatively easily. Look out for signs of tampering i. E., scratches on the covering for the odometer, or worn screws.
Always ask to view the V5 Vehicle Registration Document, the car’s service history, the MOT certificate and any insurance documents. The V5 document shows the mileage of a car, as does the MOT certificate. You can check the display on the vehicle matches what is shown in the documents. If it doesn’t, be very wary. You do not have to buy a vehicle, so don’t feel obliged to give in to pressure from the dealer if you are not completely satisfied with everything. When looking at the service history, check that the cam belt has been replaced regularly. If this breaks after purchase, you will have to replace it, or at worst, buy a whole new engine.
Ideally, to get a proper feel for the car, you can take it for a test drive. Different temperatures affect the performance of the vehicle, so if possible, test drive when the engine is warm, and also when it has been stationary for a time. Try not to allow yourself to be put off by a dirty seat or a small scratch on the interior. Get a feel for the brakes and the steering etc.
If you have decided that you want to go ahead and purchase, try to haggle. Both dealers and private sellers take into account for this when pricing a car. But make sure to get a valid receipt. This is extremely important. It proves where you bought the vehicle, when, and from whom. It covers your back if anything goes wrong.
If you are in the market for a used car, make sure you check HertzCarSales’s great cars for sale by owner inventory, and you will find great kia cars.
